Foundation to Host Wings over the Neuse
KINSTON, NC – CSS Neuse Foundation announces a fundraiser for the establishment of a memorial marker to the late Ted Sampley to be held Friday, August 14, 2009. Entitled “Wings over the Neuse,” the foundation will offer plates of barbeque wings for purchase to the general public to raise funds for this project.
Plates will be sold on the CSS Neuse II site at the Kinston Shipyard located on the corner of Herritage and Gordon Streets in Kinston, North Carolina. Each plate will include five whole barbeque wings with celery, carrot sticks, and ranch dressing for only five dollars. Delivery is included for presold plates of four orders or more.
Proceeds will go to erect a monument to the late Ted Sampley, who founded the project to construct the world’s only full-scale replica of a Confederate ironclad. Sampley valiantly served in the United States Army as a Green Beret during the Vietnam conflict where he received several commendations. “It is only fitting to honor a man like Ted Sampley for all that he has done for this country and for this vessel,” said I. Worth Mason, Vice President of the CSS Neuse Foundation.
CSS Neuse Foundation is a charitable, non-profit organization who owns and is constructing a full-scale replica of the CSS Neuse, a Confederate ironclad. Native Kinstonian and Master Shipbuilder Alton Stapleford is in charge of construction.
